GlassBYTES: The Oregon House Committee on
Consumer Protection reviewed a bill yesterday that would require insurance
companies to inform customers that they have the right choose an
automotive repair facility, including glass shops. The bill, SB 523, which
encompasses glass shops, already passed in the Oregon Senate with a vote
of 23-4. The bill will now go to the House for a vote, according to Steve

File 1542 prohibits insurers from adjusting a repair shop estimate when
the extent of damage is in dispute unless the insurer conducts a physical
inspection of the vehicle. The legislation also prohibits insurers from
requiring that shops use a particular vendor for parts procurement. The
legislation will become effective on August 1, 2007.

damage standard - MO: Sen. John Griesheimer, a former car salesman,
said the current thresholds are causing problems. If an insurance company
